Shocker: Ayatollah Khamenei Backs Vote Fraud Investigation

I came into work this morning, not knowing what to expect from Iran. The last pieces of news I passed along before going to bed ended on suspense and mystery. What would happen next? Will the Green Revolution continue? Or will the illegal regime prevail in their crackdown?

Here is the news that greeted me and everyone else here in the States:

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran's state television said Monday that the supreme leader ordered an investigation into claims of fraud in last week's presidential election.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ordered the powerful Guardian Council to examine the allegations by pro-reform candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi, who has claimed widespread vote rigging in Friday's election. The government declared President
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the winner in a landslide victory.

It was a stunning turnaround for Iran's most powerful figure, who previously welcomed the results.

Folks, this is a spectacular turnaround. This is a shocker. This may very well be our "Boris Yeltsin" moment that turns everything around. Khatami was adamantly defending the "official" vote totals all through the weekend.

We can win. Repeat that to yourself, everybody. We can win. Now we must work twice as hard to help the people of Iran in the Green Revolution.

Are you wearing green today? If not, then do it. If you are, take out your cell phones and digital cameras. Snap some photos, shoot some videos. Share everything on MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Do it today. Do it right now. Okay, finish that bowl of Cap'n Crunch first.

When I was in high school, the Berlin Wall was toppled. It was a thrilling event, but those of us in the civics classroom were only spectators. All we could do is watch. But now, you can make a difference. Passivity is no longer an option. If somebody handed you a hammer, and said that you could knock a chunk out of the Berlin Wall, would you take that swing? Damn straight you would. Well, kids, here is your chance. The hammer is in your hands. Make it count.

Update: I fixed the name because I can't spell or get anybody's names right. I'll write it all down on my green post-it notes.
