Dracula X is Now Available on Virtual Console

This is great news for Castlevania fans in the Americas.  Dracula X (aka Castlevania: Rondo of Blood) was the great "lost" game of the 16-bit era.  Released on the PC Engine cd-rom in Japan, we waited helplessly for the title to appear in the West, and, sadly, this never happened.

I remember back in 1994 when I was in Chicago for the summer Consumer Electronics Show.  It was the great meet-up for the gaming zine community that arose at the time, and we met Ara Shirinian, a fellow zine editor, in his hotel room.  He had a PC Engine and was gleefully showing off his import copy of Dracula X.  It was all he could talk about...Dracula X!  Dracula X!  Have you seen Dracula X?  All these years later, that's how I still remember the guy.

I'm sure Ara is once again the Castlevania evangelical, gleefully pushing every Nintendo Wii owner to download the classic game as quickly as possible.  You would be wise to do the same.  For fans of old-school video games, it doesn't get much better than this.
