What is Wrong With These People?

Seriously, what is the matter with these people? This is what you get after a lifetime of bullshit propaganda from the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Jerry Falwell, Fox News, yadda yadda. You wind up with a seething mass of ignorance, fear, paranoia, and hatred. And you see more and more of the repressed anger from the right that we are seeing now.

It may be easy to roll your eyes and laugh this off, but there is an undercurrent of violent anger in America, and it will only get worse in these next few years. The economy is crumbling, the Dow Jones is collapsing, and Obama and the Democrats are poised to sweep to victory in a landslide. There will be scapegoats, and it will be very, very ugly.

Republican politicians like McCain and Palin are merely continuing the tradition of stoking fear and loathing, and manipulating struggling Americans while robbing them blind. The backbone of the conservative movement lies in prejudice, anger, and apocalyptic violence. One can recall McCain's self-declared "spiritual guru," writing that America was specifically founded to destroy Islam. One can observe the anti-Catholic bashing in Rapture media like The Omega Code and Left Behind. One can listen to any swath of right-wing talk radio hosts like Limbaugh. Heck, go watch the documentary Jesus Camp sometime, and watch how children are taught the world is a sick, evil place, taught to hate and fear, and then given hammers and taught to lash out in violence.

America has a very serious problem with violence. This extremism is only going to get uglier and uglier; the threat of serious violence is real and dangerous, and will be so for the forseeable future. We must be mindful and careful.
