The Coming Republican Depression

Has anybody noticed that our nation's financial sector is melting down? The American economy is in its worst state since the Great Depression. For this, we can thank the policies of the Republicans. If you are happy with this performance, then by all means, reward them with another term in the White House.

Lehman Brothers is headed for bankruptcy, as they cannot find any buyers to bail them out. Its liquidation is now imminent.

No doubt the federal government - that means you, the taxpayer - would have to step in to some degree. But we cannot continue to bail out bank after bank, and the feds insist that no public bailout will come. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac already cost us dearly. Sooner or later, the taxpayer money will run out, and when that happens, all hell will break loose.

Thank the Republicans for destroying the US economy. Their obsession with massive tax cuts for the wealthy has resulted in a staggering $9.5 Trillion debt. When Jimmy Carter left office, America's debt stood at $1 Trillion. The policies of Republican Presidents - Reagan, Bush, and now Bush II - have stripped our treasury clean, crumbled our infrastructure, and destroyed our nation's financial future.

Should I mention that Clinton not only balanced the budget, but left us with growing surpluses? Had we followed his policies, the national debt would be paid off, and America's finances would be sound. We would continue to have the most successful economy in the world.

This is a feature, not a bug. The GOP wants government small enough to drown in a bathtub. This is how it is done. Very soon, I fear we will all realize the consequences.

Go ahead. Vote for John McCain. I dare you. Reward the Republicans.
